Another Toyota 4Runner Giveaway Scam Hitting Facebook
The original site is no longer online; links go to the Internet Archive copy.
The claim
Post being shared across Facebook claims that you can get the chance to win a 2016 model Toyota 4Runner by liking, sharing, and commenting on the post, liking the Facebook Page the post came from, and clicking a “Claim Your Ticket” link.
What the fact-checkers found
Neither the giveaway post or the Facebook Page that published it have any connection to Toyota and those who choose to participate have no chance whatsoever of winning a Toyota 4Runner or any other prize.
The post is a Facebook scam designed to trick you into first spamming your friends with the same fake giveaway and then supplying your personal information on scam “offer” websites. Many of the “offer” pages try to trick you into providing your mobile phone number and thereby subscribing to very expensive SMS “clubs” that charge several dollars for every message they send you. Others will ask for your name, address and contact details, which will later be shared with unscrupulous marketing companies and “site sponsors”.
