Matt Damon is NOT Moving to Pembroke Pines, Florida

The claims in the report are untrue. Matt Damon has made no such announcement. The story comes from a clickbait fake-news website called ‘Local News 33’. In fact, the story is just one of many recent hoax reports that have falsely claimed that various high profile celebrities have unexpectedly announced that they are moving to out-of-the-way locations to escape their current lifestyles.

According to a report that is being shared via social media, American actor Matt Damon has announced during a recent magazine interview that he has decided to move to Pembroke Pines, Florida. Supposedly, the star said that he is tired of the LA lifestyle and is ‘looking for a change in life’.

However, the claims in the report are nonsense. Matt Damon has made no such announcement. The story is just one more in a long line of hoax reports that have falsely claimed that various celebrities, including Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Clint Eastwood, and Tom Cruise have announced that they are relocating to quieter climes to escape their current lifestyles. And, in fact, there is even another – equally false – version of the ‘Mat Damon moving’ story that claims that he is relocating to Omaha, Nebraska.

All of the ‘celebrity moving’ hoax stories come from a network of related fake-news sites that recycle versions of the same fictional stories. Until recently, Local News 33 included the following disclaimer on its About page, as did the other sites in the fake-news network.

Local News 33 is a fantasy news site. All news articles on localnews33.com are satire or pure fantasy.

However, at least at the time of writing, it seems that this disclaimer has been removed, making it even more likely that visitors will believe the site’s nonsensical reports and pass them on to others in good faith.

New versions of these celebrity hoaxes keep appearing, so be wary of any report that claims that a celebrity has surprised fans by announcing an unexpected move away from the limelight.
